Leaving Cert Business Studies can be studied as a one or two year programme, either as a full-time day school student or as an external student as an extra subject or grinds class.


Course commences early September 2020.

During this extended weekly class session our subject expert Philip Curry covers  the entire syllabus across the course of the academic year.  Therefore is is suitable to take as an extra subject for students wishing to maximise their CAO points for college entry.

Grinds students will receive an in-depth overview of the Leaving Cert Business Course syllabus which will deliver a massive boost to Leaving Certificate exam performance.

Philip Curry B. Comm. (Honours), HDip in Education, NUIG
Subjects: Accounting, Business Studies, Economics.

Philip has more than 20 years’ teaching experience and has worked for the State Exams Commission as a Leaving Certificate Examiner.  He is a published author of a Leaving Certificate textbook and is also a contributor to the publication ‘Business Studies Monthly’.

Leaving Cert Business Subject Content

The course consists of the study of a variety of aspects of Business under the following headings:

  • People in business
  • Enterprise
  • Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Business in action
  • Domestic environment
  • International environment

Exam Structure

The examination at higher level is three hours duration. It includes short questions, applied Business questions and long questions.  The ordinary level paper is 2.5 hours long and includes short and long questions.
