Leaving Certificate Music can be studied as a one or two year programme as a full-time day school student.

Subject Group; Artistic & Creative

Leaving Certificate Music involves a series of musical activities -performing, composing and listening. In performing, students choose from a variety of individual performing activities. In composing, students develop an understanding of musical structure while the listening component provides for  aural experiences through exposure to music of different periods, styles and genre.

Subject: Music

Kathleen has extensive experience teaching Music at Junior & Leaving Certificate Level, both at Higher & Ordinary Level.  She has been preparing and conducting Practical Music exams for the Leaving Cert for 10 years and is experienced in teaching the Music Technology element of the practical exam.  Kathleen is an accomplished oboist and has experience in orchestral performance, conducting both orchestras and choirs.  She also plays the piano and guitar.

Kathleen is  the most genuine teacher I have had. She makes learning fun. She is an excellent teacher for both beginners and advanced students.

Subject Content

The course consists of the study of a variety of aspects of Music under the following headings;

  • Mozart
  • Berlioz
  • Music Technology
  • The Beatles
  • Tchaikovsky
  • Freddie Mercury/ Queen

Exam Structure

Students take a performance exam in April which is worth 50% of the final grade. The listening and composition paper is sat in June.
