Leaving Cert Physics can be studied as a one or two year programme as a full-time day school student.

Physics describes the laws and forces that govern our world. This subject aims to enhance student’s ability to think logically, observe and understand scientific method. It offers a general education in physics for all students, enabling them to develop an understanding of the scientific method. Science, technology and society part of the syllabus so that students can be aware of physics in the everyday world.
John Winters – Principal

John Winters has been teaching Maths, Physics and Applied Maths to Leaving Certificate (Higher Level) since 1993 and holds a Master’s Degree in Mathematics. Over the years his students have achieved exceptional grades in the State examinations. His knowledge of the curriculum and the imagination which he puts into his classes has been a source of huge benefit to students embarking on their studies of the Project Maths Course. During his career he has taught more than 250 revision courses in Maths and Physics and is a published author of exam strategy for both subjects in the Leaving Cert Education Supplement, ‘The Leaving Certificate Toolkit’ published by the Sunday Business Post.
Leaving Cert Physics Subject Content
The course consists of the study of a variety of aspects of Physics under the following headings;
- Optics/ Waves
- Atomic Physics
- Particle Physics
- Applied Electricity
The Leaving Cert Physics exam is 3 hours in duration. Students must answer questions based on theory and experiments.
