Course Details

Continue learning through a full Transition Year curriculum at Ashfield College. Students engage with core academic subjects while exploring science, business and languages, helping them broaden their interests and prepare for Senior Cycle.

Develop your game through small-group football coaching delivered by Training121. Sessions focus on technical ability, individual development and building confidence, giving students the opportunity to pursue their football ambitions alongside their education.

Learn to think as well as play. Through football coaching focused on game intelligence, students develop their understanding of match situations, decision-making and creativity, helping them become more thoughtful and confident players.

Build confidence on and off the pitch. The programme encourages students to challenge themselves, recognise their progress and develop the independence, discipline and self-belief that support success in education, sport and everyday life.

Explore the science behind sporting performance. Students have opportunities to study sports psychology and nutrition for performance, discovering how mindset, preparation and nutrition relate to football, physical activity and personal development.

Explore the world beyond the pitch. Through subjects such as the business of entertainment and football, students gain a broader perspective on the industry surrounding the sport and discover new academic interests and potential career pathways.

Develop the habits that make a difference. Balancing academic learning with football coaching encourages students to build consistent routines, improve organisation, work effectively with others and take greater responsibility for their own development.

Make the most of Transition Year and prepare for the next stage. By combining academic engagement, sporting development and personal growth, students can build strong study habits, explore their potential and prepare to return to their parent school for Senior Cycle, if they wish.

Where The Experts In Education Team Up With The Experts In Player Development

Transition Year should open doors, build confidence and empower students to explore their potential. Ashfield College’s Transition Year Football Programme has been designed to do exactly that.

By combining Ashfield College’s long-standing experience in delivering high-quality education with expert football coaching from Training121, this programme offers students a structured, purposeful Transition Year that supports both academic progress and sporting ambition.

This is a collaborative programme built on shared values, development, discipline, confidence and opportunity.

A Structured Transition Year with a Focus on the Future

The Ashfield Transition Year Football Programme is a full-time educational experience designed to help students make the most of this important stage in their development.

Students attend Ashfield College for the academic year as full Transition Year students, following a structured five-day programme. This provides continuity in their education while giving them opportunities to explore new subjects and develop interests beyond the traditional classroom.

The programme encourages students to build consistent study habits, develop independence and take greater responsibility for their learning. Alongside their academic experience, students participate in football training and explore wider aspects of sport and performance.

At the end of the programme, students can return to their parent school, if they wish, ready to focus on Senior Cycle preparation with a broader range of academic, personal and sporting experiences.

Students who wish to continue their education at Ashfield College can also enquire about progression to Fifth and Sixth Year, subject to the college’s admissions arrangements.
