OUR SCHOOL

Ashfield College places a strong emphasis on developing student agency, in other words the capacity of learners to take initiative and make informed choices. Rather than prioritising passive compliance with rules and routines, the School encourages students to think independently, set goals, ask questions, and actively engage with their education. Research consistently shows that when students feel a sense of ownership over their learning, they demonstrate higher motivation, stronger persistence, and deeper understanding of subject material. Educational scholars such as Albert Bandura have shown that a student’s sense of self-efficacy, their belief in their ability to succeed, plays a critical role in academic achievement. By fostering agency, Ashfield College aims not only to help students achieve outstanding Leaving Certificate results but also to equip them with the confidence, judgement, and intellectual curiosity needed to thrive beyond school.
